Ethnic Furniture and Handicrafts : One of its first projects was to train and
develop hand carved furniture. A group of Rajasthani itenerant performers known to
carve
puppets in wood, were trained
to make Ethnic carved furniture for urban
houses. Designs were developed for them; materials and finishes selected to make
Drawing room, Bedroom, Dinning room and Sitting room furniture. Along with Carved
Mirror
frames, planters and other
decorative pieces in wood. These
were then
marketed through Exhibitions. FAIR and Oxfam were partners in the project.
Embroidered Furnishings : The women of the Rajasthani itenerant
performers using
a kind of sujni style for making quilts and duvets using old pieces of clothing called
guddadis
to be used in their houses,
were trained into making modern furnishings,
using
and developing their skills. Wall
hangings, cushion covers, curtains, Duvets,
and other household furnishings were made and Exhibitions held for marketing.
Handloom Textiles : In Recent years, weavers from regions of Madhya Pradesh where the market for certain kind of fabrics was dithering due to changing market requirements, are being given marketable Designs by Chavi. Encouraging the new generation to take up the skill and produce for the changing tastes, keeping the authenticity of the rich local and age old styles, along with developing new designs in the same style. Fashion shows are organised for marketing the fabrics, Saris and Garments.

Sericulture. This is seen as an additional source of income for the farmers of the region.
It
will also be helpful in giving
